| Janney is short on outdoor space. Teacher are great in EC. Can't comment on later grades. Glad you enrolled. You can always try Hearst later. |
Janney has 3 play spaces (1PK dedicated,) a bb court, field, and garden. How is it short on outdoor space? |
| We just love the Janney School. Who could have imagined that the absolute best elementary school in DC would also be so nurturing? We're strong public school advocates, but Janney feels rather like an independent school. A win-win for our family. |
Wait until Bowser builds her public-private tower with market rate condos and a few affordable units on top of the Tenley library. The library was built with reinforced supports to accommodate adding several floors of flats on top at a future date. That date may be fast approaching. This "vibrant, dense" boondoggle will require taking some of the Janney school property on the eastern side for building and loading access. If you think Janney is short on outdoor space now, you'd better convince Matt Frumin to oppose Bowser's Tenley tower at Janney. |
| Hearst is co-located with the new Hearst aquatic facility. Is there any chance that swimming can be added to the school activity offerings? |
Not sure by what metric anyone could think Janney is short on outdoor space with multiple playgrounds, a chicken farm, a soccer field, and a basketball court. The charter school our kid was at before Janney used a parking lot for recess for PK, so I've got no complaints about Janney's outdoor space. I also have no complaints about building more housing on city-owned property across the street from a Metro station and facing a major commercial corridor. |
| My 3rd grader at Hearst is having a fantastic experience this year. I was shocked to read what the PPs shared about 4th grade last spring and had never heard anything about this until reading it here. Our 2nd and K experience last year were also exceptional at Hearst. Both kids receive some sort of out of class support, which we weren't able to get at our previous school, and the reading support in particular has made a huge difference. I have nothing but good things to say about Hearst. |
