You know the questions about class and style? You can't have any.

Well, why don't you do better? Show us what C looks like?

That response was C level trolling, duh.

Well done, PP.

Not only do you not have class and style in fashion, you have none in trolling or witty responses.

The whomp, whomp dirge about Lululemon, the faux-can't-find-it-vibes, the posting of vague nonspecific women in darkwear with no socks (good god, they'd be walking barefoot through airport security, right?).

It has a delicious and artful glomminess.

I live in darkwear but cannot do no socks with shoes like that, airport or no.

If you had real class you'd have TSA precheck and not have to take your shoes off at the airport, peasants.

NP. You want PP to troll better than you? Is that your request?

Also, completely agree…bargain basement trolling. Embarrassing.

Wow! So many women here recognizing the truth in OP's post. Probably posting while in sweats.

You’re really shitty at trolling.

But I would never use such coarse language.

Is that the best you’ve got? You’re really out of your depth on DCUM.

Out my MY depth? I think I am doing pretty well!

Yes, I’m sure you do.

Not convincing at all -- I'm sure you can do better!

Alas, I am trying but google only shows me American attire. I will fail at educating you, indeed I am a classless failure.

In other words, you are a middle schooler, sharing you middle shcool humor on a Mommy board you disdain, yet read obsessively at every sleep over.

And here you are answering to a middle schooler?
Gosh, should have started a thread about not just you not having any style.....

So I should dress in high fashion to be shoved in a cramped seat in a tube and be fed cheese and crackers in a box with coke (or really cheap wine/beer if I want to overpay for it)? Hmmm…no thanks.

I will agree that people should step it up at live performances (theater, etc.) out of respect for the people performing for you. But airports are basically hovels these days.

I like you, too. I think it's a fun thread. I tip my hat. (Borsalino)

The main places that Americans fall short on style compared to even middle class and many working class people in other countries (including much of Europe, Asia, the Middle East, large cities in Africa, Australia, South America, etc.) are:

(1) Shoes. Americans wear such unfashionable and poor quality shoes. I feel this has gotten better in recent years as fashion has turned to more casual, comfortable styles and have met Americans halfway. But for many years, you could pick out an American tourist in a heartbeat, even one who was UMC and decently dressed otherwise, thanks to their cheap, terrible shoes. The number of cheap flip flops I saw on lovely college-age and 20-something men and women over the last two decades. Shudder. Buy an actual pair of shoes please.

(2) Outerwear. So much fleece and nylon. Ugly windbreakers. Just hideous. What is wrong with a classic wool coat or a cotton chore coat or a good quality rain coat? You can buy these things without spending a fortune. I understand the allure of technical fabrics but you don't have to wear them all the time. Natural fibers can be very durable and comfortable. If you aren't mountain climbing or going skiing, you don't need to dressed like you are.

(3)Hair and makeup. The young people are doing better with this now as they have recognized that natural skin, even with visible imperfections, is usually more pleasurable to look at. Though this is counterbalanced by the rise of those social media influencers and their airbrushed skin. But at least we are not seeing quite as much heavy eye makeup and caked on foundation as a decade or two ago. And the young folks in the US seem to have also embraced more natural hair. I hope it sticks. So many middle aged women with helmet bobs, like an army of newscasters only they are marketing managers and SAHMs. Why are Americans always trying to make their hair look like wigs? Just get a good cut that works with natural haircut, keep it trimmed every 6 months or so (more frequently if you wear it shorter) and don't style and fuss with it so much. It's too much.

My guess is this is because most Americans are driving everywhere and/or have long commutes parts of which involve driving. It's way more easier to deal with fleece and nylon, as opposed to a full length camel hair coat, in the car. Many of our restaurants (and I am not talking about McD and the like) do not even have a place to hang up a nice coat. I actually used to wear nice outerwear because I live in NYC and don't have to drive. But then my company moved and switched to hoteling workspaces, meaning that everyday I have to drag to work everything, including a coffee mug (no disposable cups either, because environment). That necessitates a backpack. And straps from heavy backpacks rubbing on the nice wool coats destroy that nice coats. So, it's tech and nylon for me for my daily commute.

+1. I dress for the airport assuming I will have to spend a night on the floor. Don't tell me I won't.

I have enough money for all of my needs and most of my wants. The beauty of the US and if you work hard enough you can create a better life for your children. We love to travel and I could not care less what you think of our airport attire.
