Sending kids to classes to learn how to ride a bike

Knowing how to swim, even if all you can do is dog paddle, can save your life and your children's lives.

I can bike but am not a biking or swimming person. I learned to bike and swim and cook without help from my parents. I will pay someone to teach my kid to bike. Some parents don't exercise, bake cookies, clean house, speak other languages, read the classics, or do art projects with their kids. And that is totally fine. I think there is strength in admitting you don't like to do certain things with your kids and making sure they get what they need from someone else.

I really don’t know how to teach them to balance! I’m not great at it myself and don’t own a bike. I’m not sure why that’s sad to you - would you prefer they never learn?

We live in the suburbs but there is nowhere safe to bike here. There are more cars per household and more people driving than ever. Our neighborhoods aren't safe for biking like mine was growing up. I biked a lot in college and did centuries out of town on small country roads and think it is 10x less safe in my neighborhood than there.
I don’t have a sidewalk ifo my house. I took my kid to a school playground when it was closed.

That wasn't my point. I did the same and taught my kids to ride by going down little hills without pedaling near a school. After doing that for less than an hour they were riding with no assistance on the track.

The pp made the comment that they don't see kids riding bikes as much. ie kids who know how to ride don't do it often. I think it is because of the traffic.
