Cheating in high school

Anonymous
My kids grades went way down last year when she was doing virtual school. At least I have the consolation that she wasn't cheating!

I have an 8th grader. She really doesn’t have to cheat because the teachers basically give the kids the answers that are on the tests. Or the math tests come with ‘formulas you might need’, etc.

Why is everyone abdicating their parental responsibility to teachers? Teach your kids right and wrong, teach and model appropriate cell phone use, provide consequences for cheating.

If anyone has ideas of what parents can do I am interested.

Many kids don’t want to bother putting in any effort because they know they can copy off friends. It is a depressing situation which is hard to manage

Why do you allow phones in the classroom? Either phones in the lockers or on the teachers desk. If there are twenty kids then there better be twenty phones on your desk or the test doesn’t start.

Wish it were that easy, especially when mom wants to know what happened to Larla's iphone 13 that "the teacher took and never gave back."

Parents would be up in arms if their kids couldn't have their phones.

Were you supporting and monitoring them to make sure the work was done?

I’ve done all of that. One kid would never cheat and the other one does.

And what are the consequences for cheating?

What consequences did you give your cheating kid?

OMG OMG technology or anything new is the root of all evil!

Cheating is pretty widespread in college too.

Have phones front and center and face down in front of every kid for the duration of the test.
