Snow day Friday? Sigh.

I'm ok with it as there are a ton of Omicron cases and it can only help if everyone who can stays home tomorrow.

This is ridiculous

There’s no evidence that COVID spreads in schools

What does "this is a total whiff" mean?

Means they think the snow will be a non event and OPM closed prematurely.

I got the context but have never seen the phrase. Does "whiff" mean not real or nothin?

A whiff is when you swing at the ball in baseball and miss. Or similar attempts in other sports that aren't successful.

DCPS closed Friday.

I think to be more specific, we can say that it does not spread more in schools than in the general community, which is where children are if schools are closed.

This week, man. I’m just so tired…

Is there evidence that COVID doesn’t spread in schools? I’m not trying to be snarky but a lot of students and teachers at my school tested positive for COVID before break and we have half those numbers after break. It’s seems pretty reasonable to suggest that COVID is spreading in schools (but of course that doesn’t mean that COVID only spreads at schools or even that schools are the number one cause of spreads)

Cool. Winter break was basically extended by an entire week on an almost day by day basis.
Omicron is a cold. Get vaccinated and get over it. Sacrificing an entire generations education has now become ok.
I’m fairly certain kids in northern states that have constant winter weather figure out how to go to school on a daily basis.

To be fair, our much wealthier suburbs to the south didn't even try to get into school this week. I'm saving my outrage. For what? TBD.

It's not that covid doesn't spread in schools (it does). It's just that it doesn't spread more in schools than it does in the surrounding community, and it often spreads less. As someone posted above, when kids aren't in school, they're not just hiding out in their basement, they're part of the surrounding community.

Virginia schools haven’t been in session since Dec 17th 🤪

I’m so beyond sick and tired of this. I can’t wait for the summer because at least camps have more incentive to stay open.

Anecdata. There are so, so many reasons why an individual school would have varying numbers of positivity week to week. And you're asking to prove a negative.

+1

I had a pretty relaxing holiday break but this week put me right back into the high levels of stress and exhaustion I had before Christmas. The lack of any type of routine or reliability this past week really got me.
