If it's so mild, why are the hospitals jammed?

Gonna go out on a limb and say that if hospitals are jammed with admitted patients due to covid those patients are virtually all unvaccinated and/or immune compromised. It’s mild for the vaccinated.

Reposting for the misinformation that hospitals are "jammed". They're not.

Hospitals aren't jammed at all. Take a look at the HHS portal. VA hospitals are doing great at non-flu season capacity right now (70-80% is regular during that time period and hospitals typically "fill up" during flu seasons; VA is at 73% for hospitalization and 78% for ICUs right now).

The ERs are flooded, but with COVID paranoid people testing positive with no or little symptoms. What a failure of public health to scare people so much they're flooding the ER for the sniffles.

Children's National Reports Record Number of Kids Hospitalized With COVID-19

It says they are “doing everything they can to open tomorrow” - not that they will

Staff email seems more decisive, I don't even think there will be a delay

Only because we’re spazzing. Snow used to be normal here.

In recent times. If you’re local you remember more delays than snow closures.

I’ve been here 5 years as a staff member and parent. 2-3 inches overnight/around commute time is pretty consistently closed/delayed

It's pretty clear that we will not be open on Friday so I vote for not going in tomorrow b/c nothing will be learned but I am very pro/for free babysitting. I have a very busy (work) day tomorrow.

The years we did have snow came with delays/closures.

It’s faster recovery when they have a chance to pretreat (no preceding rain).

The problem with these statistics is that the press is purposely scaring people. There may very well be more than 50 children with covid hospitalized, but what was the original reason they went to the hospital. Very likely the majority of those were for other reasons, and they tested positive with Covid, but have no symptoms, or very light symptoms. Press has been busted man times inflating these statistics to scare people.

It’s really weird that this isn’t clarified more! Even fauci said something about it.

Covid is scary but we need to be clear about the actual risk. So hard with all the chatter.
