I'm a current GDS MS family who posted upthread, and I'm thankful for this post. As we look ahead to HS, I don't want my child at a school like you describe for your other child (I went to such a school and felt crushed by it), so I'm happy to hear that GDS has a better balance. |
Okay I’m rich, have a lot of money for myself but also donate a ton to charity. I see women’s rights, reproductive rights (including the right to an abortion), LGBTQIA+ rights, and rights for immigrants as human rights. I’m Jewish and don’t want Christianity to be the law of the land. I want to be taxed more than poor people. I should still be a Republican though? |
Yeah so. Go to the GDs one and report back. It’s what was said above. Plus bussing. |
If you had as much sense as you claim to have dollars, then yes. |
Agree. We sent our “bare minimum” kid there early on because we thought she’d be more interested in choosing her project topics and customizing her work like progressive schools tout. Well she just spun her wheels with lack of structure and expectations and didn’t even learn the basics well. And the lack of spelling or math tests or even standardized testing really doesn’t help parents know what kind of learner they have. Even the dismal ERB results later were sent out with heavy caveats that GdS doesn’t cover most of those materials, they “go deeper and narrower” even in the lower grades math and reading comp. Whoops. |
Again, you are conflating two separate things (how one chooses to live personally vs. one's broader policy positions). For example, as a matter of public policy to reduce inequality, liberals generally want billionaires to pay a much higher share of taxes than they currently do. If such a policy were somehow implemented, I doubt that most liberals would care nearly as much about how said billionaires spend their money after having paid the higher taxes. |
Do you not care about rights for minorities or women? Do you not believe the rich should be taxed more than the poor? Do you believe Trump was an acceptable president? |
I get stuck in the GDS one on my way to and from my Big 3 drop off and the carpool line is the same as the other schools. Mostly luxury brand cars and SUVs. Not sure what point you think you are making. In fact, with the new LS and MS buildng, I think GDS has become the liberal counterpart to the Cathedral schools in terms of attracting people who like to show off their bling. |
Just don’t expect people to take you seriously when you pay $40k/yr for a school that has no immigrant families or poor people. |
| My kid at GDS says you cannot express an opinion that is not super woke or you will be ostracised. I worry they are being taught what to think rather than how to think. Other than that, it is great |
Which DMV area top private school pushes students like you described? I am not aware of any of them like that. Please name it, or you are a troll. |
Um… Sidwell. Duh |
Holton. |
| Love GDS. Nurturing, supportive, rigorous. And fun. |
Sidwell is most definately note a "push push push" school. Are you sure your kid isn't feeling peer pressure rather than from teachers or the administation? It has been our experience that the kids are self-motivated and self-starters, and the faculty guide via group projects, class discussion etc. Please define what you mean by the push push push thing. |
