Yellowstone Park with 7 & 10 year old this July - any suggestions/must sees?

Anonymous
We planned a 'last minute' trip to Yellowstone given low airfare prices - any suggestions on hikes, sights, or other must sees? Flying into Salt Lake City, driving to West Yellowstone for a few days, then Mamouth Falls, before heading to Jackson Hole for 3 days and back to SLC. thanks in advance!

Yellowstone is awesome on it's own, but Grand Tetons National Park (right next to Yellowstone) is just beautiful and worth a day.

We just got back from Wyoming last night. We stayed at Jackson Lake Lodge in the Grand Tetons and went up to Yellowstone for a day to see Old Faithful. Other than driving through we didn't spend time in Yellowstone but there are awesome canyons and falls. Since you'll head down to Jackson, it's worth it to stop at the Lodge and see an awesome view of the Tetons (well you'll see awesome view of the Tetons anyway but the Lodge has a nice overlook and is better than the pull off the road turnouts imo). Teton Village is also nice, you can ride the gondola to the top of the mountain and down for free after 5:30, my kids loved it. They also have a bungee trampoline jump.

There is a Park newspaper they will probably give you when you enter either park that is very informative and can probably help you plan your trip. Don't forget your binoculars.

In Jackson Hole, definitely have lunch or dinner at Bubba's BBQ restaurant: the best! A must do in Jackson Hole! Your kids will love it! By the way, I am not affiliated with the restaurant or anything, I just still have very fond memories of it... Simply delicious...

I loved this, can't tell if 7and 10 year old would, but we chased geysers. The Park service keeps track of when they are expected to go off, figure where to go, take postcards to write while you wait or play games. We were lucky and never waited more than 20 minutes anywhere an went to about 10 geysers that day.

Lucky you! We did Yellowstone last year with a 4 and 1 yo and everybody had a blast. I recommend you stop at a bookstore and pick up a guide book to those parks, it is worthwhile the small investment. You can then plan each day based on how things are.
