Anyone get their abdominal muscles repaired

Mine are split about 2 inches. Whenever I have to pee or eat a lot my stomach sticks out. Am nervous about doing ab exercises because it could make it worse.
AND my belly button is now an outie (eww). I guess it's an umbilical hernia.
Anyway, I am fit and thin generally. This is my major problem area and I am thinking about surgery. Anyone done it? Do tell...

I wish I could but it will never happen for me. 2 inches wide is pretty darn wide. Maybe you would improve with exercise (Lose Your Mummy Tummy book and DVD) and wearing a splint around your waist.
