I posted here a few times about how unhappy I was in my relationship with DH and I was seriously contemplating separation. Then I realized that I was feeling generally irritable in all aspects of my life. I had started a new medication a few months ago and when I went back to check the side effects I saw that irritability was one of them. I brought it up with my doctor who switched the medication. I have been much calmer and every small thing isn't setting me off anymore. Our relationship isn't perfect and there are still plenty of things that bother me, but I'm able to be much more rational about it now and I can't believe I was thinking about blowing up our family over relatively minor reasons in hindsight.
Just a PSA to consider other factors as to what could be causing your unhappiness. |
| Meds and hormones can mess you up. I'm curious how many women here have no sex drives because of hormonal birth control. I've always been extremely high drive, but I had to use birth control pills recently and it killed my drive. It was astonishing how immediate and profound the effect was. |
+1 I was high drive, happy and thin-ish. I went on the pill and became miserable, plump and didn't want to even think about sex. |

No, the problems were there already due to spouse's dysfunctional personality. However, my illness and medication aren't helping. |

Thank you OP for taking the time to tell us your story.
It can be a great lesson learned for another person currently in distress. |

| I had a similar experience with birth control pills. I've taken other types of birth control pills that didn't cause that side effect. I almost blew up my relationship over it. |
I told my doctor 'what's the point?!!' re: birth control pills and she shrugged and said 'it doesn't happen to everyone'. But it's ridiculous - you're basically not 'you' on those pills. They can actually cause you go pick the wrong mate as well. |
