When did decency become a partisan issue?

Seriously asking this question. Especially in light of all the Republicans who first denounced Trump's behavior and are now embracing him.

I feel like it's no longer okay (and just sour grapes) to oppose the legitimization of hate and bigotry that Trump's ascendance represents. Why are so many Trump supporters upset about appeals to decency from school districts? Honestly, every Trump supporter I know has also acknowledged that he openly appealed to bigotry. We can disagree about whether that's a disqualifying trait for the Presidency, but they did not disagree that it's not behavior they agree with.

And FTR, I'm not talking about challenging the election outcome...I'm talking about standing up for decency even in the form of protests.
