Specifically looking for somewhere to go for a weekend in December. Decorated for the holidays, with some Christmas-themed events.
this may not be what you're looking for, but Nantucket island has a Christmas Stroll on the weekend of Dec. 2-4. There are lots of shops and restaurants open and decorated for Christmas. There are lots of activities. You can stay at the White Elephant Hotel. There are lots of beautiful places to stay in Nantucket. And it's so easy to walk around downtown.
Berkshires. Wheatleigh or Blantyre.
these are all great suggestions - thank you!
Maybe the Mount Washington?
Woodstock Inn in Woodstock VT. Chatham Bars Inn on the Cape, but it's quiet there in December (but Christmasy)
That place run by the family from the Sound of Music in Vermont, the Von Trapp Family Lodge or something like that. Or maybe Stowe.
|
Not New England, but Hudson Valley:

Also in the berkshires and very elegant is Canyon Ranch. You can visit tanglewood and Stockbridge which is a charming town I'm sure will feel Christmasy. Visit Norman Rockwell museum and Edith Wharton house. Good theater and music too.
Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge Mass.
Yes, either Trapp Family Lodge or Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe. |
Yeah, Stowe, definitely.
Kid related (never been to Greenbriar) is the Cape Codder - little kids love it.
op here. Yes two kids will be along ages 5 and 2. I think that leaves canyon ranch out but I would love to visit solo. We are in a Boston suburb. Have been considering cape codder. It looks great but I am not sure how much there is to do in winter around the hotel. Plus my older son is not quite tall enough for the water slides. If I convince dh to do the drive the mountain house in NY looks great. Also looking at the Stowe and Berkshire suggestions. Thanks all!
