Plastic melted onto Calphalon Contemporary pan....

Someone in my household (NOT ME!) managed to melt some plastic onto the bottom of one of our Calphalon Contemporary pans. Regular washing won't take it off. I obviously can't put it back onto my stove, so even though it says not to use abrasive cleaners, that's what I'm going to do to see if it works. Anyone have any other magical solutions or recommendations?

Maybe freeze it to make it brittle?

Really hot water to soften it off of the pan?

Try scrapping it off with a platic spatula or a platic knife.

Heat it just enough to soften and scrape off what you can.

I know this is an old post, but I thought I’d share in case others have this problem. I turned on the wrong burner and melted a plastic spoon in my nice Made In stainless steel stock pot.

I read online to heat water with baking soda and use a wooden spoon to “just peel it right off”. That got some off, but not all, despite multiple rounds / attempts. I also read about trying a hairdryer, or nail polish remover, or magic eraser. None worked. I then read about W-D 40 combined with baking soda (as an abrasive) and someone commented they used olive oil instead of W-D 40. I tried olive oil and baking soda and scrubbed to no avail. But I then heated the olive oil to sizzling and used a wooden spoon to scrub and it came off! I plan to do some more rounds of cleaning and polishing, but it looks fine (except for the spot or two where I scratched it trying to chip it off with a knife). Obviously with plastic and hot oil there’s a risk of burning yourself - and I was glad I’d removed as much as I could already - but for the final stubborn pieces hot oil and baking soda was all I could get to work. (I then let it cool, scooped out the sludge with a paper towel and threw that away.).
