Moving after lottery but before enrollment

Anonymous
Our son is eligible for prek3 next year. We also need to move for more space before we try for another kid. We are fine with our son attending our IB school (they accepted all in bounds and a decent amount of out of bounds last year). We are going to try for some charters too, but know that can be a long shot. It didn't seem likely that we will be in our new place before the lottery application closes. Should we apply to the lottery using a different address to try and get into our IB as an OOB kid? Will they not care since it's not a hot school?

As long as you have proof of address by enrollment (May 1), you'll be fine to use the new address.

The issue is we may no longer be IB for the same school.

If you're not going to be IB than you won't have IB preference. But, if the school isn't that popular, you'll probably get in as an OOB student.

Then your IB preference will be removed.

call the myschooldc hotline. They helped me think through a similar scenario last year.

Why do you have to move for more space BEFORE you try for another kid? Try for the kid, see how long it takes. Then deal with it. Depending on how you time things, it would probably get you through enrollment!

(We got pregnant with #1 right away. #2 took a year.)
