I think I might like to be a foster parent down the line, and have always felt drawn to help foster kids and foster parents, but I don't have any personal connection to that community. I am 30, single and childless and I have worked as a nanny and Newborn Care Specialist for nearly a decade. I'd love to use some of my knowledge and skills to support these kinds of families. Does anyone know of an organization that might be a good fit?
What a wonderful thing to do, OP! You would be an awesome, dream-come-true Respite Care volunteer (someone who takes the foster child for a day or a weekend on a regular basis to provide an opportunity for the foster parent who needs this support). In your area, Northern Virginia Family Service is a nonprofit that has this program. Look on www.nfs.org and click on Foster Care.
