Bridgegate trial

Thought it might be nice to have one thread not on the presidential election.

I haven't been following the trial that closely, but does anyone find the defendants' explanations plausible? I totally believe that Christie would throw things at Bridget Ann Kelly but the idea that she texted "time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee" because she thought they were really doiing a traffic study seems so thin as to be made up.

Christie was clearly up to his eyeballs in this mess.

Yeah-- that's the one thing that they can all agree on.

I think people do care about this-- it was a pretty shocking abuse of power and people could end up being punished significantly (leaving aside that Christie's political career is over).

Whoever arranged and approved this farce displayed an almost sociopathic arrogance. It is unconscionable to purposefully disrupt the lives of thousands of people just to get revenge on a rival who did not support your reelection. You can't treat people like pawns in a chess game. It is insulting that Kelly is pretending that there really was a traffic study. If Christie knew about this deception - and it appears that he did - then he needs to be prosecuted.

Having lived in NJ during the reign of Christie was actually a bit mind blowing. He was pretty well liked by both Dems and Reps to start with - people liked his "honest" talk and "new" ways of handling problems. At one point he had the highest ratings of any US politician.

Today, he is one of the most hated and has destroyed entire sections of the state to feed his own ambition. Like NJ needed more of an image problem....

Not to bring it back to the election, but it's interesting how Trump throws around statements about Clinton having bad judgment in Huma, while Christie has been his right hand man.

Both Bill Baroni and Bridget Kelly have been found guilty on all counts.

So are they going to prosecute that POS Christie now?

Christie's probably going to be on his knees till polls close Nov 8, praying for Trump to win.

Christie's only hope is a presidential pardon, which isn't likely.

"The co-chairman of the legislature's Bridgegate committee has said he wants his committee to get back together. He wants to subpoena the governor, and let the governor testify under oath about what he knew and when he knew it."

Yes.

An inconvenient traffic jam over a few hours many years ago is clearly the most urgent issue of the day.

Abuse of power should matter to everyone.

I guess it matters to good people.

We had been up to New York shortly before this happened. There are always inconvenient traffic jams at that location. Worst traffic jam I have ever seen except for one in The Netherlands during tulip time.

You’re aware it takes cases a while to get to the Supreme Court, right? They don’t just react to what’s on Fox & Friends this morning like the President.
