Swastika graffiti at Burning Tree Elementary School

Anonymous
A sign at Burning Tree ES in Bethesda was defaced with swastika graffiti. Police removed it. Anyone know anything more? Awful and depressing.

Means nothing. Just a band of intoxicated middle schoolers or ninth graders.

Middle schoolers are getting drunk? Where? Parties where parents serve booze to school kids?

Diwali celebrations? Swastik is a holy Hindu symbol that the Germans stole.

Called svastika in Sanskrit, it is an ancient symbol of auspiciousness in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. -Wikipedia

To be honest, the idea of drunk 8th graders running around scares me a lot more than this terrible graffiti. Not sure that PPs attempt at ta-ta'ing this was effective, because either way it certainly does "mean something".

I think regardless of who did it or why, we need to denounce this type of hatred every single time.

We need to over react to everything every single time.

Graffiti is not a normal part of Diwali celebrations and your attempt to explain this away, or (worse), pin it on the South Asian community, is abhorrent.

People who dismiss these issues so easily and flippantly are at worst, the people who raise kids that paint swastikas at my kids' school, and, at best, people who raise children to tolerate hatred and help normalize it rather than denounce it.

Like this one: "We need to over react to everything every single time." Ok

And this one: "Means nothing...." Ok.

It actually means a lot to me, and a helluva to the Jewish and other minority children who now know some racist antisemite menace is lurking in their community, even if that menace is a juvenile with a disgusting sense of humor.

The only decent response is to denounce this sick behavior and hold those responsible accountable. Period.

It was likely one of Hillary's beloved "refugees" who did it!

Doubtful. The white supremacists and other home grown bigots exponentially outnumber any refugees.
