couch potato to 5k? where to run indoors?

Anonymous
Someone posted a link to this workout on another thread, and I'm thinking of trying it as I sign up for a charity 5k this fall. The problem is, I am so NOT a runner, and have avoided it because I have asthma. Obviously I'll take it slow and carry my inhaler, but since my asthma is aggravated by the humid/smoggy air in this area, does any one have any ideas on where to run indoors? I'm in Arlington - any indoor field houses/tracks? I don't have (nor can afford) a gym membership, and childcare issues preclude running in the early a.m./evenings when the humidity's not so bad...

Most county rec. centers have fitness rooms with treadmills.

Are you looking for treadmills or an actual track?

OP, it doesn't matter to me whether it's a treadmill or track, the criteria is that it be free (or close to it!)

Lots of rec centers and gyms have treadmills but it is not free. My local -in county rate- rec center charges $6.85/visit.

Oh, PP here. I have asthma too. I've had lots of problems in the past. Check with your doc about re-adjusting your meds. It took many visits and readjustments. But, I'm fine with running with asthma.

Yours may be worse than mine. But, just a thought.

Do you live near a college or university with an indoor track? You might be able to run there.
