Should I worry? Semi - verbal toddler comments

Anonymous
My child is almost 2 and in full time day care for the last two months. She's adjusted very well and talks about her day care friends and teachers positively, though in short fragments, she can't really communicate complex ideas or sentences longer than 3 words yet. Tonight at bedtime she suddenly said "day care" and a name that I think was the center director's. (Not 100% sure because it's a common name and we saw a friend with it this weekend, but when I tried to clarify she said it was at the park, so I think we're talking day care.) I asked if she liked her and if she was a nice lady and she shook her head vigorously to each, which is VERY unusual, she likes both of her teachers and usually nods as the default if she's not sure about a question. I couldn't get her to say why - again, semi verbal - but she said something that sounded like "damn it" twice and then started talking about socks. (She hates wearing them, and has just had to start again with the cooler weather, so one possibility is that she refused to wear them and the director was the one who tried to keep them on.)

Should i worry, given that none of this was even in complete sentences? It could be some random kid at the park with that name, it could be a power struggle over socks, and my husband thinks she was trying to say something else that sounded like "damn it," not the word itself...lots of ambiguity here. But I don't want to be a parent who ignores weird warnings either. What would you do or say? Anything?

I would do nothing.

There is no way to know anything from this interaction. Keep watching but don't worry too much. Your gut will tell you if something is off.

So there's a slim possibility the director was trying to put your kid's socks back on and let a "damn it" slip?

Keep it moving, OP
