Recently moved from the suburbs to Capitol Hill and went from 2 SUV's to one and a motorcycle. All is well in the spring, summer and fall when DH can use motorcycle easily for his commute. For the winter, we were thinking of transitioning so that he would use the SUV to commute and I'd just use taxis and metro for commuting around the city. I wondered what no car or one car households budget monthly for taxis and metro fares? I imagine with the ease of Uber/Lyft use it can get fairly high.
Where are you commuting to from Cap Hill?
Dafuq? You are on the Hill but not walking, biking or metro-ing where possible, really?
Commuting from the Hill to Georgetown mostly.
Biking to Georgetown in the winter? Seriously? And metro is not that much better when headed to Georgetown. |
The commute from Eastern Market/Capitol South/Potomac Ave is super easy to Foggy Bottom-GWU on the train. Grabbing an Uber from there should be easy. I would imagine about $500/month if you're using cabs regularly.
Also, commuting from Capitol Hill to Georgetown in the winter on a motorcycle would be fine/easy except for maybe a month (total) worth of days through the winter, as long as you have appropriate gear.
Don't rule out buses. I have a car but use the bus really often when I don't want to have my car. I'll bus to happy hour and cab home afterward. WMATA site has circulator info and the regional bus systems looped in.
Actually you could use circulator. Check there routes...they have one from Union Station to Georgetown
