| I've read and enjoyed most of Lee Child's "Reacher" series, but just can't bring myself to see the "Reacher" movies with Tom Cruise as the title character. He's just all wrong for the part and it seems like such a vanity project for the teeny-tiny Cruise trying to play a strapping giant. Anyone else? |
| Yep, I felt the same way when he was cast. The books are so clear on his physical size, and Tom Cruise is the opposite of that. |
| I saw the trailer, he does look pretty rough. |
+1 |
| I don't give a duck about the original books. I just re-watched the first film, in anticipation of the 2nd. It was good. Its not Oscar worthy, but it was good. |
| +1000. Reacher is described as 6'4" tall (I think?) and very strong. Cruise is anything but. I love the books, but Cruise is poorly casted and definite a vanity project. |
| I saw this more than a year ago I think? Great entertaining movie. Cruise is a solid actor. |

I am obsessed with the Reacher series and I was so disappointed when I saw Tom Cruise was Jack. Every novel has a point where Jack is described as a behemoth with scars and not attractive. My mother loves to poke fun at the fact that she's going to see it because she knows it irks me, as she introduced me to the series.
I believe Tom Cruise purchased rights to the movie though, that's why he's casted as Jack. Not 100% sure and I'm not going to fact-check, but it sounds about right. |
Yeah, the Jack Reacher novels are wish fulfillment of a different variety. I don't think that look would translate as well, visually, as it does in the books. |
| Glad to see there are other fans out there being driven crazy by the casting. Maybe if tom cruise wears 12" heels it could work |
| Think Dolph Lundgren as Reacher, not Tom Cruise. |
Good point. I always imagined a Liam Neeson or even Tom Hardy. |
| I wont give a penny to a cult leader like Tom Cruise. |
Agree. Though I always got the impression Jack was tall, big, and hot, just with scars (think Dylan McKay with the scar through his eyebrow) all over. Tom Cruise is little. He's a little, little man, who strikes me as manic. While I'm bashing on Tom, Graham Norton once had him on a show with Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron and the inventor of Family Guy. They were all doing impressions, and when it was Tom's turn, all he did was his impression of Emily saying HIS name. How lame! |
| I was extremely disappointed with the casting choice, but I will say, I enjoyed the first movie a lot (when I didn't expect to) and thought Tom Cruise did a great job. |
