How long for CogAT result?

Anonymous
DD is taking the CogAT this week. Just curious when we should expect you get her result?

Looks like it was the second or third week of January last time. FCPS is again warning people not to miss the January 13, 2017, referral deadline if the scores haven't arrived.

Most likely early January. If you're preparing the parent packet, it is recommended that you put it together before the CogAT results arrive since you won't have a lot of time until it's due on 1/13.

We received scores after the parent referral packets were due last year.

Almost everyone got the scores before the deadline last year. You must be a pretty rare exception. I'm sure some didn't, but the vast majority got them before the deadline.

DS got scores 2 days before the deadline. May as well been after. We had completed the packet.

It surprises me that they can't get the scores faster, if its all online. SOL scores are also online and basically instantaneous. Do they purposefully delay them as long as possibl?

I think DS got his scores the night before the packets were due. We had already submitted our packet by the time we got his scores.

And yes, based on last year's thread, we were one of the last schools to get scores.

The schools were VERY upfront last year (and this, I understand), that the CogAT results will likely come late so parents should prepare a packet if they want their kids considered for AAP. There should be no surprises.

Yes, it's a plot to annoy parents, especially those with poor typing skills.

I find it quite annoying and I feel like it greatly increases the number of pratent referrals. My ds got a 128 so I'm referring. I feel with 95 percent certainty he would be in the pool after the cogat and get in without my referral based on aap teacher and 2nd grade teacher feedback. Yet, now I will be obsessing over the referral like everyone else.

And not only that, but if I had a child I wasn't sure about I'd also do the packet because what if the cogat surprised me? I bet if they had the cogat released earlier the referrals would go down.

I'm curious what the teachers said to you that makes you feel so certain. I never had any communications w/the AART about my kids.

Sometimes there is a post assessment of the test and if there were any unexpected results on a question, it would be tossed and then everyone's score would change. It is way with SOLs. You can get a raw score instantly, but sometimes the final/official score differs.

The CogAt is scored is also based on age and how everyone did in the pool and not just the raw score of the actual answers.

Not PP - but I communicate with the AART regularly and she says things alluding to how she thinks DS should be in AAP, as does his teacher. Both had pushed me to parent refer. His NNAT was 129. So not in pool. Don't know CogAT yet of course. I suspect he will have a decent GBRS.
