Is a vacation a valid excuse for postponing jury duty?

I just got my notice for jury duty and it falls smack dab in the middle of our vacation. This is for Montgomery County, MD. Do they allow a vacation as a reason to not attend?

yes it is.

they have no expectation of you cancelling / rescheduling plans - contact them now and ask for a new date.

If you're in MoCo, I think you only get one reschedule though. So, if your next time up you get picked for a jury on a long trial which you think will interfere with your job or other responsibilities, you don't get a second pass.

Is there a phone number on the form they sent you? I bet you could call and ask them.

You can call them for a deferral, and they will ask you to pick a date that is more convenient. So look at your calendar before you call since you will need to be prepared with a date you are able to do it.

I asked to change my date to the following month and, to my great surprise, they offered to defer it to the following year, so I'm guessing you won't have a problem..
