Ocean, View Delaware beach house

Anonymous
Does anyone own a beach house in Ocean View, DE--near Bethany Beach? We are considering buying a beach house there--prices are lower than at Bethany but it's just 3-4 miles from the beach. I'm also wondering about the parking situation at the beach--this house is in a community but there's no beach shuttle. Thanks!

parking and traffic is a bear

Just 3-4 miles is very far for 1 lane roads that are packed on Friday/Saturday/Sunday

Prices reflect that. Why would you buy a beach house, then drive to the beach?

We have a beach house in Maryland and we love it, and it's just 120 miles from the beach. Also no shuttle.

Because we can get beautiful new construction and a SFH in a nice community for a very reasonable price, which is what we want. We don't want an old, cramped condo within walking distance to the beach. Also we plan to go just as much in the low season as the summer season, such as winter and spring breaks, long weekends all year round, plus a month in the summer, etc.

The thought of going to the same place for vacation year after year (multiple times a year) sounds incredibly boring. Sounds like a bad idea if your not planning on actually living there. It will be hard to rent out that far from the beach as well when your not using it.

Still not clear on why all that distance from the beach, if you are driving over 3 hours to the beach?

Do you have family there, OP?

Is this like the OBX epidemic - the idea of cramming as many people into a house for vacation, even though you live five minutes away, yet never see them?

OP here. We already go to Bethany Beach several times a year on vacation (not our only vacations though) and have been going a few times per summer for over a decade. Now we want to buy a vacation home in our favorite vacation destination. No, we don't have family in the area.

We're not planning to rent it at all. But other VRBOs in the area seem to be very popular.

We do. Which community are you looking at? Traffic is bad at times during the summer. Parking can be tough depending on where you go. We don't tend to go to Bethany Beach - we buy a state park pass for $70 per year and go to those beaches. Parking is rarely an issue, except at the one between Bethany and Fenwick and Cape Henlopen. But you have a choice of a ton of beaches. Our personal favorite is the unguarded beach just across the Inlet Bridge.

Are there any parking permits for homeowners? There don't seem to be a lot of spots in town for Bethany Beach. That is a good idea about the other beaches. What do you tend to do when you're not at the beach? When we vacation there at hotels, we usually do beach from 8-noon, then back to hotel for lunch and nap, then back to beach from 4-7 pm, then dinner out. I'm just wondering about how we would structure our days there if we buy a place. Kids are 2 years old and infant.

Savannah's landing development is in Ocean View and is about 1.5 miles from the beach. It is nice. As you ssid the cost is lower. The drive isn't bad. Parking is always a pain but just go early with a load of quarters. You can bike as well.
