what does the blood work tell you during monitoring?

Anonymous
SO I just finished my first IUI cycle. I understand the point of monitoring the follicles i.e. determine how big the eggs are. What I don't understand is what the blood work tells the RE. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I think they're monitoring your various hormone levels - estrogen and the like - to ensure that the drugs aren't having any countereffect on your systems. Check out Resolve or some of the other infertility forums that are doctor-moderated, I'm sure you can find something much more scientific in response to your question.

PP is correct - they are typically monitoring hormone (medication / natural) levels in your system...

They check your estrogen levels as you get closer to the IUI because they correlate with the number of follicles you have, so that tells them if they are counting right. They also check your LH level to make sure your haven't ovulated yet.
