3yo DS has enjoyed playing with magnatiles for the last year. He has the 32 piece set and lately when he plays with them he wants to build things that would require more pieces. Debating about getting another 32 piece set for Christmas, but wasn't sure how much more use he'll get out of them. What has been your experience? |
My 5 yo also started at age 3 and still enjoys them. She plays with little Legos more, though. |
get a 100 piece. We are 6 and going strong. It is the best "toy" investment we have made. |
My oldest is 8 years old and he and his friends still play with them! They build elaborate structures that go with their Legos, etc. I would get the 100 piece set, especially if you have or are planning to have any more kids. Even if not, he could get use out of them for years to come. |
NP here - we have Magformers because they were cheaper. Is there any benefit to the expensive magnates over these? |
My 8 and 10 year olds still play with them. They build mazes, castles for figurines, etc. |
Mine rarely play with, never have. |
My 12 year old will still play with them with his younger siblings. |
+1 |
I agree that the 100 piece set is worth the investment, and I'm usually a cheapo about things (i.e. Refuse to get my dd an American girl doll, she has the target knockoff). My 1st and 3rd graders still use them a lot. |
My son played daily with them from 3-7. Daily. He has about 150 pieces.
He is almost 10 and still pulls them out occasionally. I expect he will use them more in the colder months. He still does pretend play with action figures, etc. and the magnatiles make good forts and things like that to use with his other toys. |
more pieces will keep their interest for longer. My 5 yr old still really likes them and I know some 7 yr olds who still play with them regularly. |
Still going strong at age 5! Possibly the most played with toy at our house. My dad loves them too. ![]() |
I have a 10 year old who still likes to play with them.
We have 200 pieces, and with two kids, they go fast. I would even consider getting an additional set. BTW, Magformers are not nearly as good as Manga-Tiles. Magformers need to be aligned correctly, or else they don't stick. It's very frustrating for younger kids. |
I'd get him the 100 piece set for Christmas. My 6yo plays with his nearly every day. |
