| I saw a thread a while back on hiring someone to give PIO IM shots while spouse was away. A few people mentioned doing it themselves. Spouse will be out of town during the time of trigger. I tried before to do PIO myself and was not successful but have had no problem doing all subq shots myself. Any tips on how I can really figure out how to do this myself? |
| Where does the shot have to be injected? |
|
I guess I'm not sure. My other IM shots for PIO were in the upper outer quadrant of the buttocks, so I assumed there. Is there anywhere else IM shots go? My trigger shots for IVF at my other clinic were always subq so this is new to me.

| I did all my shots myself, including tons of intramuscular Menopur during three stim cycles. Youtube has lots of videos you can watch where people are doing it themselves in the upper outer butt muscle. Basically, standing in front of a mirror and shifting your weight to the opposite side. You can do it, and GOOD LUCK with your cycle! |
| Or you can ask your clinic to let you do a subq trigger. |
Just squeeze some fat away from your body and stick it. |
Hmm? My nurses told me to do IM by stretching skin tight. Only subq is the pinch. I hear they have good videos on freedom fertility website. |
| I've been doing my own delestrogen im shots (for FET). Husband did trigger shot, but now he's out of town. I had the nurse mark up on my butt where to do it with a sharpie. I just stand in front of a mirror and twist to get the shot in the right place. Hardest part is actually putting that huge needle in- but once it's in I don't feel a thing. Easy peasy. |
Yeah, this. IM shots are administered differently than Subq shots. Also wondering about the poster who is doing menupur IM - is that a thing? |
| My clinic allowed sub q trigger shots for IUI but not IVF. The rules are different for different procedures. |
| I'm a single mom by choice, and a lot of the women in that group do their own IM shots. One person told me that she lies on the bed on her side and twists around to stick the needle in her hip rather than doing it standing up. She finds it easier to relax the muscle that way. Good luck! |
+1 I did them all myself too. Agree about watching some youtube videos. People have different methods. I found one that worked for me on youtube |
+2. Did all my shots myself as well. I watched a few YouTube videos first. I did mine standing in the bathroom in front of the mirror (facing away from the mirror) and then twisting around. I had the nurses draw a target on each hip. |
| Ask your nurse to circle the area for the shot with a magic marker. It will make it easier for self injection. |
| OP and wanted to say thanks for all the help and suggestions. Trigger got delayed a few days to where it was outside the window when spouse would be out of town, so he was able to do it for me. But I feel armed and ready to do one or two myself should this situation arise again! |
