Crying it out /?puppy

Anonymous
Our puppy is very adverse to her crate and we've all been up all night basically fur 6 nights since she came home. We are trying cold turkey tonight in basement as we need sleep . I'll set alarm and take out once - is this ok? I know it's a bit harsh but we desperately need sleep! Has anyone ever done this?

You are very cruel and obviously unready to care for a puppy. Let her sleep on the floor of your room. She won't cry. You can sleep. And you won't be a cruel, evil, and heartless bitch.

Please put the crate in your room.

I'm surprised at previous posts. I believe in sticking to crate training as a positive. What breed and how old is your puppy? I have labs and a kong with peanut butter and kibble helped. You can use a calming spray specifically for dogs. Have you draped a blanket/towel over the crate and even put 'spa' music on?

We never put the crate in our room, but within earshot. If you need sleep, try the basement and just get puppy out in time to pee. The crate is the best way for training (if done responsibly) Please ignore the first response you received. If you let her sleep in your room, she will expect it the rest of her life. I'm not ok with that, but my dog is very loved and spoiled in other ways!

How old is your puppy? I was taught that for every month old they are, that's how many hours they can hold their pee. So a four month old puppy can hold it for four hours.

Dogs are pack animals. Your dog probably wants to be near her/his people. You should put the crate in your room. Also make sure it's a soft crate.

We have a cockapoo who is about 14 pounds. Her crate is soft fabric and only the frame has wires. Then there's a dog bed in her crate, and a few of her toys. In addition, there's a bowl of water. But she is an older dog and knows not to knock it over.

Lastly, she will happily sleep in her crate even with the door of it open. When we were training the dog to use the crate, we'd give her treats in her crate. We increased the time she spent in there by a half hour at a time, and also played soft music so she didn't feel alone.

Oh, gosh you people are cold. Poor dogs! They're pack animals and very snuggly. They've been sleeping in a puppy pile and now in your home they're alone in the basement in a cage?
Humans are the worst animals. Just the worst.
Poor dog.

I couldn't take it after night 2 and he's been sleeping in our bed for 12 years. Try to avoid if you can.

Our dog sleeps on our bed. We don't mind it at all.

Puppy will likely pee/poop all over your floor, if left loose! The crate is a way to train responsibly!! What breed and age is your puppy? I'm a very responsible and loving dog owner, never left my dogs loose in my room until a couple years of training! I believe in Ian Dunbar's training.

Why would you leave your puppy alone in a basement? The 'very loved' PP sounds ridiculous.

We put the puppy in the crate and took turns sleeping on the floor next to the crate. That was before we had kids...

Plus 1000.

Put the crate in your room. You can always move it out in a couple of months.

Not cruel at all. I would do it with a baby as well.
