I'm in the same boat and would love some feedback. I've heard Bethesda ES is getting overcrowded?

A mom at Woodacres told me that her sons class is going to 30 kids next year (4th grade i think). Around 700 kids in the school with portable classrooms out back. K is probably mid 20s class size. Otherwise she loved the school.

Carderock and Bannockburn have smaller class sizes than some other Whitman feeder schools, from what I have heard. Carderock is being rebuilt from the ground up and will open next January -- so downside for next year is that kids are getting bussed to another facility nearby for school until the school reopens. But then the school will be brand new!

Bethesda Magazine has an article in its archives on the best elementary schools in lower MoCo.

Nearly all the Bethesda elementary schools are overcrowded and have/getting portables. The trade-off...

Overcrowded as well - by over 200 kids basd on the MCPS website!

Westbrook parent here: lovely neighborhood school but very overcrowded. Great, involved parent community; the principal is average--much more bureaucrat than visionary.

Many thanks for the replies!

Shame, as we are possibly going to live around the corner... Is the teacher/student ratio high? Would anyone know how would they cope with children who have no English?

We live in the Wood Acres catchment area and although our kids do not attend there, I remember an embassy family neighbor telling me that they were advised to look at Wood Acres because they did well with ESOL students. His kids were there for several years and enjoyed it (and learned English very quickly!) Granted this was a dozen years ago so maybe a current parent could give more info.

EVERY Mont. County public school has an ESOL teacher that should see students regularly. As a part time ESOL teacher I see all my students at least 3 times a week for English instruction.
