Does anyone have any experience/advice on this program?
From what I understand, if your in bound school does not meet standards (on the NCLB transfer school list) then you are eligible to go to an outbound school. It appears that you have to wait until August to apply to go to an out of bounds school? This does not make sense. So, if my child does not get into an out of bound school or charter school in the lottery (even though my in bounds school is on the transfer school list the previous year) I have to wait until August to apply to an out of bounds school and just cross my fingers and hope I get into a good DCPS. HELP??? |
Look around on the DCPS website. From what I remember, you can't transfer out of bounds to just any school -- failing schools are paired with one or two designated "receiving" schools. Some of the receiving schools are great; some better than the failing school but still not great. This failing school out of bounds transfer process is different/separate from the online out of bounds lottery that takes place every spring. |
OP - thanks for the comments. I checked out the website. One of the schools is great, the other is not. But it appears that you cannot apply until August and there is no guarantee that you will get in the school you want. |
