| I know that flare ups are not uncommon for kids with OCD. How do you know when it's more than a flare up and is instead actually time to increase the medication? DD has been doing really well for a few months, but this last week has been dreadful. |
| What is she doing now op? |
| As an adult with OCD, if my symptoms flared up for more than a week, I would seek a change in my medication. For me, two or three days with is usually situational and it will subside |

OP,
Do you see a child psychiatrist for medication? Can I ask you who you do see? Thank you for the info. |
It started with an uptick in handwashing and then the intrusive thoughts became more frequent/she was not able to talk back to the them. Been about 5 days now. |
| In our house we'd be checking for strep. |
| My son has flare ups that can last a few weeks or months. I'm really glad that I didn't increase the medication because now he is having a good stretch and I'm not seeing much OCD. I think it's just up and down -- good patches and bad. |
Strep test was negative. She doesn't have PANDAS, just garden variety OCD, but I had her tested anyway looking for some sort of reason behind the flare up. |
| I wait longer when it's a transition time (like the beginning of school). A few weeks. That being said, often things spiral out of control quite quickly and then it takes some time for the new dosage to take effect. Has your daughter grown a lot since the last dosage adjustment? That can also be a factor. |

| You can have PANDAS or PANS without testing positive to strep. Any Viral or Bacterial infections cmay cause an increase in OCD/tics. Has your child been sick at all? |
This. If there are "flares" it's likely caused by strep or some other type of infection. |
