Stagnant Wages

Anonymous

Gee, I wonder why?

Obamacare is now structurally built into the economy. In addition to all the exchanges going belly up, the premium increases are double-digit year after year and because of a lack of competition, health insurance companies are forced to insure more sickly people. Thus, they're passing costs onto the consumers. Employers will tell you their bargaining power is not helping them with their double digit increases... they pass part or all of it along to the worker. Just look at your pay stub for the last several years.

And, whatever they don't pass along to the employee, they absorb, but come time for raises, that "absorption" gets factored in, so lower raises and stagnant wages.

Bottom line, less $$$ are going to worker's raises and more is going to mandated health care insurers. Bravo! You got what you wanted. Now stop complaining about stagnant wages.

-----------------

BTW, inflation is much higher than the government tells you. They play games with their "basket" of products that they measure inflation; change it whenever the numbers start to look bad. It's true! That jar of peanut butter or dish washing detergent really did just get smaller. Those cartons of ice cream really all did get smaller at the same time. It's all politicized to make the voter think happy days are right around the corner. You know all this. You just can't admit the greater good is actually the greater bad.

Now, back to Sunday Night Football, Angry Birds, the Kardashians, Honey Boo Boo, Pokemon, and Dancing with the Stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The more the plans fail, the more the planners plan." - Ronald Reagan

That is a funny quote, because I was recently in Rome, and the TOUR GUIDE literally used the bread and circuses quote and compared it to Donald Trump's promises.

We have Donald Trump's promises and Barack Obama's ACTIONS. Who are you trying to fool, donkey?

Listen to Steve. He explains exactly what's going on....

Italy has little to gloat about. They are literally on the precipice of falling apart. They're having a vote in today i believe that could determine the future of italy. I doubt it lasts as a single country by the end of the century.

Factoring out inflation, wages have been flat for decades.

I think the Italians understand better than most the perils of voting for a blowhard like Donald Trump (hello Silvio Burlusconi). I think they must be relieved at the possibility that Americans are just as stupid.

Wait. Italy is "literally" on the precipice of falling apart? What do you mean by "literally" here?

Yes, I absolutely understand. We have been in a period of very low inflation. So having very low wage gain is expected because you have the same purchasing power. Do you think you magically deserve more money for doing the same thing, in a noninflationary environment?
Anonymous
OK, and do you, OP, think that Trump will somehow wave the magic wand and prevent inflation if he gets into office?

Obesity is a disease. We need smaller portions.

WTF?
This has everything to do with charging the same price for less.
And, BTW - dish washing detergent never made anyone obese.

Let us assume Trump wins. All of Trump's Promises will end in dustbin heap because the republican party controlled congress is not spending money for Wall. period. Trump has already softened his deporting illegal plan but probably to deport criminals, same as Obama BUT market it as deporting illegals. Trade war with China will damage the US economy and it is a non starter. So nothing will change on trade front. China has US by the collar. What remains is tax cuts for the rich and increased military spending. These are traditional policies and the GOP congress will approve. The same policies led to a recession at the end of George bush's term. Same story will repeat, recession at the end of Trump 1st term. Trump's hard core disillusioned voters will continue to see Nonwhite IMMIGRANTS in their Dear old America and stop voting for anyone.
