Ear Piercing

Anonymous
My 8-yr.-old DD got her ears pierced and, although the dots we marked with the pen were perfectly centered, the earrings sit much closer to the inner ear lobe (towards the face). Should I consider taking them out, letting the hole close and redoing it later? Not sure if the lobe gets bigger with time making this less of an issue...

My DD is so excited to finally have her earrings that it kills me to have to ask her to redo it...

Just leave them. My mother did something similar to what you are suggesting when I was younger, and now I have two holes side by side in my earlobes (only one can I actually get an earring through). While it isn't super noticeable, it does look odd and seems rather pointless to me. I usually wear a diamond stud and the extra hole always shows. I think just leaving the original piercing would have been less odd than having an extra hole showing all the time. Her face and ears will grow anyway. If she doesn't like the placement when she is older and has stopped growing, she can get them re-done then, or get a second hole.

Leave it. My aren't even - my left hole is considerably lower than the right. But nobody other than my mom and I notice the difference. I feel like earring hole irregularities are pretty common. I'm sure it will be fine. Or, as PP mentioned, it makes more room for a second hole, if she wants that.

Leave it - I let mine close some 20 years ago - they are still there, highly visible.

And they change position as the ear grows! My daughter went from perfectly centered to not so centered. Looks fine though!

And I also let my second holes close up, almost 20 years ago. I could still put earrings in them if I wanted to. It didn't work for me either.

Leave them in.
