I am looking for a great book that has maps of the 50 states and close-ups of some of the major cities. Not too geared towards children but something my elementary aged kids could look at and get a better sense of the country's geography.
I seem to remember having something like this as a kid -- it was a big thick book and I loved poring through it. Any recommendations? |
| Atlas? |
yes, an Atlas. Amazon has many of them - any recommendations for a particularly good one? |
| My kid has two maps hanging on the wall in his room - one of the world and one of the country so he can always look if he wants. Sometimes he forgets they are there but I do see him looking at it and pointing stuff out to us sometimes. |
| I would just get the latest version of the national geographic atlas. It will be a world atlas rather than just a US one, but that's probably better in the long run. |

This is a little more geared toward kids, but it is really well done.

IIRC, they have a World Atlas but then also one for each continent. We have the World Atlas for 6yr old DD and she loves it. |
| I second the National Geographic Kids World Atlas. Very detailed but not overwhelming for kids. |

My 6 yr old loves this book: The 50 States: Explore the U.S.A. with 50 fact-filled maps

| I think you should check the geography section of the kids nonfiction in the library. |

We have the same! I got them from Staples, but they also have maps at Barnes and Noble. |
Seconding this one! |
