(I think) toddler ate an old, opened baby food pouch.

Dh "cleaned out" my car and apparently threw an old, opened (but partially full) Gerber food pouch in a pile on the garage floor. I had my back turned this morning to turn around with DS holding it. I have no idea if he ate any of it but about an hour later he threw up profusely and has had a fever ever since. I gave Motrin at around 3 but at 7 it was still hanging around 100. Would you be worried? Could the bad food hurt him or do you think it's all coincidence and a virus? He didn't eat much today except for a yogurt at dinner and some Cheerios at lunch. He also skipped nursing before bed and didn't make a peep when I left his room and went straight to sleep which is unusual for him. Am I over worrying?

I bet it's coincidence.

I remember my daughter was about 4 and she found and old yogurt smoothie in the front pouch of her bike from the YEAR before. She opened it and took a swig. When she told me what she did, I looked inside and it was all nasty and moldy (I still get grossed out thinking about it). She was fine.

It could absolutely be food poisoning. If you have the pouch they could culture and tell.

I think it's probably not from the pouch, but you should call your doctor if you're concerned. It is possible to get food poisoning from it. I would be worried, too, but I think the chances are pretty slim. Was his poor eating prior to the packet incident or before (I couldn't tell the sequence of events)?

Open like the cap was off? Was it empty after you took it back from him?

It's possible it is food poisoning but just as possible it is a coincidence.
