Tell me about canopy beds

Anonymous
I have always wanted a canopy bed, and am finally in a moment of life where we have the need for a new bed in the MB, the space for one, and the resources. Reality check, are they a good look? I'm having second thoughts along the line of whether the line at the top breaks up the room too much. Looking for something simple, danish-modern wood, iron or mix. Bonus points if you have suggestions of furniture stores where we could see some in person within a 3hr radius.

I think of them as being for children to be honest.

Check out Room & Board. They have a store location in the Logan Circle area. http://www.roomandboard.com/m/catalog/bedroom/beds/architecture-bed

Somehow simple Danish furniture and canopy bed do not belong in the same sentence.

I disagree. There are many simple canopy beds out there. Just he frame, no real fabric canopy. IKEA had a fabulous one years ago.

You need high ceilings for a canopy bed to really have the right amount of space around it and not look crowded in the room. But in the right space, they can be gorgeous.

I don't like the like personally, but it's your bedroom, for goodness's sake. Get what you like; it's only you guys.

Thanks. To clarify, typically (or at least what I'm envisioning) is without an actual fabric canopy, which hopefully takes it out of the "princess" realm.

I love them! I think as long as you have a big enough room, it will look great.

West Elm has a couple of things that might fit your style:

OP here: Fabulous! Love the West Elm: Rogan. Thanks for pointing it out!

Here's another from R&B. This one is wood, but still had the steel slats.

Agree with PP who said get what you want. I like them but wouldn't get one because I'd get sick of it eventually, but it sounds like you're pretty confident and you've liked them for a long time.

That is a four-poster bed.
