The dems shutdown the gov over illegal aliens. Wow. Nothing more to be said

No. Five Democrats voted against the CR and five Republicans voted against it.

Vote count doesn’t matter - it only got to that point bc Dems wouldn’t sure to listen to any deal not protecting the dreamers. If all 5 Rs had voted for the CR, show me where we had 9 dems in favor.

To get 9 dems in favor, you change the bill to something they support. That's called governing.

None of the disagreement is even about what is in the CR -- it's about what's not, which isn't do or die at this point because Dems will be back in a position to shut it all down in a month if they don't get a compromise by then.

Let's not forget there are plenty of Republicans who want to keep DACA. The top business lobby right now has giant banners celebrating the Dreamers right across from the White House.

I think Trump was horrifically wrong to talk about 'shithole' countries, but I think Dems own part of this by putting energy into smearing, rather than rising above to focus on a deal.

The DACA deadline is long past. Every day people are falling out of DACA status right now. It’s a mess.

My American kid cannot get MA in state tuition despite the fact that we’ve paid taxes in MA for 15 years. DACA kids from all over the country can.

Shut it down

Sounds like a personal grievance, not a reason to punish 800,000 people. If you don’t meet the MA guidelines for in-state tuition, that’s on you. Why are you posting in a local DC forum, anyway?

What exactly is in the bill that they do NOT support? The problem is that the Dems insisted on throwing in a deal to protect Dreamers.

Apparently, there was a deal, but John Kelly blew it up.

If it's great except for Dreamers, then why was it a short term CR at all? Why not a CR until September?

The only thing Dems do support is illegals. First we take care of the 800k dreamers but then oh what about their parents and then it’ll be - oh such close families, how about the aunts and uncles and cousins?

DP, but the PP made a point that you twisted around. The problem is the rules allow illegal immigrants to get in-state tuition, and your response is "that's the rule." Well, that's the problem! Why are children whose parents broke the law getting advantaged over American citizens?

That person clearly has a residency issue. There's no advantage of DACA recipients over Americans. If a DACA recipient's family had a vacation house in MA, they, too, would be unable to receive in-state tuition.

Of course dreamers and their families will end up being citizens now and get everything they want, but this gives me even less interest in working out a favorable solution for these people who think they are 100% entitled to everything down to in state tuition even though they came illegally. The kids - whatever - the parents knew they shouldn’t have been crossing the border or overstaying the visa.

The bottom line - Democrats are more intent on supporting illegals than the American people.
This shut down in on the Dems.

Where is the facepalm emoticon when you need it. Reagan was fooled by Democrats into believing that they would help secure the borders in exchange for amnesty. Give us a wall and proper border security and end chain migration FOR STARTERS and we are closing in on a deal.
