Observations of friends there in the '80s, and my son there now, totally jibe with PP's description. If an STA kid is at home in his own skin, and if he doesn't take himself too seriously, he will be fine (just as he would be anywhere, actually!).

After 6 weeks in the place, I think this is spot-on. Relieved to find out that it's not who your daddy is, what he does for a living, or how thin and blonde his trophy wife (or girlfriend) is that determines the boys' social circles.

I especially enjoy seeing how boys from different sides of the political, socio-economic, and racial aisles forge bonds, when you know that the parents back in the day would have nothing to do with each other. But when the boys do become friends, it is amazing and encouraging to me how more often than not the parents befriend each other. There is hope in this world...

The Cathedral has its' own police force, but that wouldn't preclude the parents of the injured boy pressing charges. Don't know anything about whether that is happening.

In other topics, I hear the Beauvoir applicants are swamping the pool for 4th grade this year. Going to be extra tough for outside applicants.
