If you feel this way, you should take it to the Club Director and Coaches. They’ve addressed this before.

The BLC director has a daughter on the 2030 team.

I would avoid any travel team where the coach or director has a kid in your daughter's age group. It just seems like a recipe for drama. In rec, it's unavoidable, but there's no reason to put up with it in club.

Parent coaches are the norm, whether M&D, Hero's, MDU, BLC, Yellow Jackets, its the reality.

It happens, but it's also avoidable. I'd rather have a college-age or recent grad as a coach than a parent who is more experienced. Too much drama.

I’m sure there are parent coaches who do a fine job but you rarely escape feelings that they favor their own kid, and if their own isn’t the best there’s no chance she gets cut

It's not only that, but the daughter's bff and the neighbor or coworker's kid. It's so political with adults. On the other hand, young coaches who are right out of college don't really behave this way. I'd much rather have that situation. Sure, there are less years of experience but it doesn't mean that they are less talented coaches. And you can't put a price on less drama.

Which is weird, because there's a huge market of experienced, v good coaches that are itching to train and drag 6th graders all year up and down the coast for a few grand.

Technically, BLC coach that’s at Holton is not a parent, correct? YJ also doesn’t have parent coaches.

My daughter got an offer from YJMA this week and the 3 coaches listed were all going into their senior year of high school. They expect me to pay thousands for 3 seventeen year olds? WTH? I’ll take my chances with Pride or Stars despite the bashing on here.

Newsflash, all teams have drama. Even the ones with young coaches right out of college because there is so much parent invovlement, orchestrating, and manipulating going on.

There may be 2 YJMA 2030 teams. Not sure who’s coaching the VA based team. The MD team is coached by two former Div 1 players, one of whom plays on the Czech national team.

Entirely possible the VA team is coached by HS players.

As a 2026 parent, agree. Once you make it on to your high school team the drama is over because the result is in place. Meaning the middle school years are filled with drama to make it to the right high school team and once you get there it is equal playing time and the drama is more or less over. Sure there are small things but at that point what can you do .... you ride it out and hope you are on the right team.

I’m sorry I wasn’t more specific. I should have been bc I see this is a 2030 thread. My daughter is a 2032 and that is what I meant, 3 coaches were listed in offer and they are high schoolers.

Is this a common theme where High Schoolers are coaches? This is the only travel sport I seen where this happens. Normally, HS'ers are rec coaches

YJMA parent here - no idea - this is the 2030 board. You should make a separate one for 2032 - not something we need to worry about!
