Best private schools in NYC?

What's the biggest difference between Buckley, St Bernards and Saint Davids for young boys? Why did parents choose one from the other?

Have not heard anything about the wait list from Brearley. Has anyone else? Is anyone else considering Spence or NG for their daughter?

All of the Big 3 girls schools send out wait list updates shortly before the decision deadline, but my understanding is that they generally had higher demand and fewer spaces than expected for a lot of classes

Haven't heard from B wait-list either (middle school). Figure if we haven't heard by now, it's not likely to happen.

High school deadlines are next Wednesday so assuming we would have heard by now! Mine is holding out hope but once we commit on Wednesday I think we won't remain on the list. Has yours decided?

We got off the waitlist at one of the top 3 all girls schools for middle school last year and that happened by Friday of this week! Waitlists do move!

Spence is much better than NG. If you have an acceptance to Spence go there! Although Chapin probably best after Brearley these days.

This is a random bit of praise - not sure why I came here to write about it, but whatever. We were trepidatious at first about sending our child there initially, but Dalton has turned out to be the most wonderful, caring, observant school I’ve ever had any connection to. Just profoundly happy with our experience so far. Thought there was a chance we’d regret choosing it over trinity, but we love it so much.

Anyway, that’s all. I guess even if you’re not into progressive education, which we weren’t sure about at all, you may want to give Dalton a chance anyway.

It’s especially nice for Jewish families, as that’s a major orientation there, just like how St David’s is for Catholics.

This is a weird comparison IMO. We are Christian and have kids at Dalton, and I don’t think Dalton is oriented towards any religion in particular. Certainly not to the extent of St D.

Yeah… not sure where that came from…

We chose NG for our daughter over one of the ‘big three’ SS girls because the students seemed happiest there. We spoke to families at different schools and found some to be so tense. I remember parents like that from my high school, their kids got into Ivy’s and then had nervous breakdowns.

I rarely see student happiness mentioned as a reason to choose a school in this forum.

And I’m biased but based on comparing my daughter’s (lower school) curriculum to the others, I think academically it’s really the ‘big 4’ SS girls, because NG was more rigorous than at least one of them - at least in lower school.

My daughter goes to Chapin and has friends at Brearley and they don’t seem tense at all, just VERY into doing well. They all seem pretty happy. It really just depends on your child and what is the best fit for them!

Dalton has no religious orientation whatsoever. I have no idea where that idea came from. Was it a joke?

Email from Brearley said there has been no movement on wait pool and none expected before the noon deadline!
