withdrawing from preschool contract?

hi:

has anyone had experience with withdrawing from a preschool even though a full-year contract was signed? we are not thrilled with the school and may have found a situation that would suit our child better.

We withdrew for medical reasons before the start of the school year and were charged three months tuition. I was none too happy with the inflexibility of that policy.

Two years ago, I withdrew around Christmastime. I ended up paying for two weeks, which essentially was a forfeiture of my deposit and prepaid care. Had I paid week to week instead of month to month, I think I could have gotten away with losing only one week of tuition. I can't recall what my contract stated about giving notice, but no one pursued the matter.
