Anyone "give up" and then get pregnant?

Anonymous
On month 7 of trying. Have been using OPK but no luck. Tried the cheapies and the super expensive. Have sex multiple times during the window (every other day). Nothing. Already have one child, so I know that on some level all the parts work. Feeling so defeated and tired of tracking / charting. Any positive stories of people taking a break from the tracking and getting knocked up? I am 34, so don't want to miss too many cycles, but not sure if a break is better.

TIA.

I know lots of people who have had this happen. 7 months really isn't that long at 34 though.

Take a break and revisit in a few months. I didn't even have my first until 35 and I have DOR.

OP, did you have a c-section? Sometimes scarring from surgery can cause a problem.

Me. Tried for #2 for 29-33. One early loss. Got pregnant almost a year after giving up. Carried with difficulty, but she's here.

I stopped tracking (temping, charting, and OPKs) at month 10 since I knew when I was ovulating and we were having perfectly timed sex and nothing. So I figured "well, I'll take a break since this clearly isn't working and at month 12 we'll be starting the process of testing and I'd prefer to have some breathing room before that happens." Proceeded to get pregnant on month 11.

I hadn't given up but at month 12 after two unsuccessful rounds of clomid stopped meds at started acupuncture while I made appointments with IVF specialists. My DH was skeptical of IVF but I wanted more info. I conceived at age 37 / month 14 of trying. Got my pos the night before our IVF consult. Currently 17 weeks. Oh - also, since I had a vaginal delivery with first and no disease my OB didn't think I needed an HSG. Eventually we did one to rule out problems. All was clear, but I conceived a week after my HSG.

Yep. Totally gave up. 5 years later--surprise!

We're about to give up on infertility treatments but keep on TTC naturally until I go into menopause. Struggling with secondary infertility, got pregnant on the first try with my son, who is almost 3.

Now TTC for almost 2 years and I have not been able to get pregnant even once, we have not skipped a single month and have done treatments. I am 38, have DOR, repeat implantation failure and significant immune issues. I think it's pretty much hopeless for me to ever get pregnant again, and I am unwilling to do heroic measures to try to get pregnant (i.e. no donor egg, surrogate, etc.) It would be amazing if I were to get pregnant after we stop doing treatments, but I'm not counting on it.

Do you think it was the HSG or the acupuncture that helped? How long had you been doing the acupuncture?

My husband thinks it was just our month. I think one, the other, or both helped. My accupuncturist thought my Fallopian tubes were spasaming based on our discussions. Who knows. I went to him for 6 weeks prior to conceiving. I also continued to see him for a few weeks for the first trimester. I think usually people go longer but that's what happened to me. Also, we'd been trying every other day and the month we conceived we were exhausted but had sex every day of the window. Finally, my TSH had been around 2.5 and doctors suggested lowering that to try to get pregnant. When I ran another test it was naturally at 2.0. I have no idea how long it had been lower so I don't know if the accupuncturist helped lower it at all.

Yes, I tried for two years. I got pregnant literally the month after I stopped trying. Apparently I ovulated at day 7, not what I thought I was tracking.

This is me. Tried for 3 years starting when DS was 2. Clomid and timed intercourse - 7 rounds then several IUIs. In January we gave up and tried to move on and be happy with our wonderful DS. Got pregnant in July. Almost 12 weeks now. Still barely believe it.

My sister conceived her first DC through IVF after years of treatments.

Their next pregnancy was unplanned and accidental- two years later.

I know 3 people who quit TTC, adopted, and immediately got pregnant. One now has 6 kids (2 adopted).
