So, we had a large flood in our house to a malfunctioning toilet. It was recently put in by our builder. Apparently what happened was it clogged and then the flapper stuck so water flooded out of it. Our DS apparently didn't notice and went back to bed. We discovered 4" of toilet water in our beautifully basement the next morning. Anyhow, we would like a toilet that is not a malfunctioning piece of junk. Today's low flow toilets seem to clog nonstop unless they have a higher level flushing system. The Champion toilet by American Standard is supposed to have a great flushing system and also the largest flush valve and trap ways. However, in reading online reviews I hear a lot of 'I got a defective one and the flapper stuck open/it leaks' kind of instances which would leave us with a poop flood again. I tried going to HomeDepot to see the quality of the interior parts but all of the toilets are on display 7 feet off the ground so that did not work out. Couldn't find one at the local Rockville bath store either. Does anyone have one? What do you think of it? Do your kids/uncle Louie clog it? At the bath store there was a Toto toilet in the actual bathroom. I tossed the typical amount of paper my kids put in there and it immediately clogged and I could not even unclog it. Not that impressed, though maybe it was the Toto's for chihuahuas or something idk... Please help with your Champion or Toto toilet review. |
| Toto Ultramax FTW. Best toilet we've ever owned, from old Gerbers to American Standards and Kohlers. |
| We have all Totos in both our houses. Gmax systems. We've got a few different models and they are all good. |
What are they good for? If your kid tosses a wad of paper in there will it clog? |
so do we. they are the best |
| Toto for the win. My parents use the crazy triple ply comfort toilet paper and it doesn't clog theirs either! |
Teach your kid to not use giant wads of paper! |
They are good at being low flow toilets with the power to flush whatever on one flush. |
| I had the champion installed when I gutted my bathroom this Spring. I bought it bc I have 2 boys that seem especially talented at clogging the toilet. So far, no problems. Fingers crossed! |
| +1 on Toto. We've had 2-3 different models in our houses and they've never clogged. We use the ultra cushy TP, too. |
| Boys clog up the toilets like crazy and mine are now teens. Toto is awesome! |
Thanks! |
Yes, we have some of those too. Teens, not Toto's yet. So they don't clog much? Also - how often do you have to replace the internal parts? I just ordered a Toto. The promenade g-max flush 1.6 one. (Difference between gmax and ultra flush anyone?). If this one works out we'll probably be buying 3 more which is crazy but virtually every basic toilet we have gets stuck on or clogs easily. The one caused 30k in damage - a lot of $$ caused by a cheap appliance . I never thought I'd have to spend 2k on toilets. |
Been working on that. He has cognitive issues. |

You can look up "MaP testing" for toilets-- they actually flush soybean paste to simulate how toilets well do for flushing.
