I'm glad no one was hurt.

Do you think the bus driver had to literally pull kids off the bus? Don't they do bus evacuation drills? Surely, she opened the door and said, OK kids get off?

Yes, heroic in that she went back into the bus that was burning, to make sure everyone was off.

The kids are barely back in school, I wouldn't assume they've done drills yet. But even if they have, they've done what, one? Do you really think five and six year olds are going to just calmly remember what they're supposed to do and do it, instead of some of them getting scared and hiding in their seats?

And was it really necessary to try to find a reason to tear down the hero of this story? What does that get you?

Precision is just important to me, I'm trying to understand exactly what happened. Some articles say this bus driver "pulled the kids off the bus" which to me would imply that there was some kind of accident and she had to go and extricate them. I'm trying to understand, why did she have to help them one by one off the bus? Does that mean she stood at the door and helped them hop down, or did she have to carry them off or what?

As for Kindergarteners -- this was Glen Arden Woods Elementary school. It's for TAG identified kids grades 2-5.

Wonder what PGCPS will do to honor her for acting so courageously?

She may have been appropriately lifting them, shoving them/pushing and physically getting them off. There could have been someone at the bottom of the stairs and she handed each kid off to that person to get them out quicker. Its not clear exactly what she did but she's clearly someone who we should all want driving our kids as she did her job and everyone, including her got off safely. If they were 5-6-7 year olds, they may have been really confused so she may have had to physically grab some of them and get them off the bus.

Its PG County - fire her and blame her for the fire.
