| dining room is light blue but hope to paint it linen white soon, we like coastal and modern so I was thinking outside chevron rug but any ideas or links of a good rug that is inexpensive for under our dining room table? 3 kids, nothing expensive but practical. Thanks |

I have a sisal rug under my kitchen table. It has held up pretty well and is very affordable. Works well with coastal.
Some people don't like the feel of sisal or sea grass, but I don't walk around bare foot and it is just under a table. I vacuum it with my cordless Dyson. Ballard has good prices on them and you can choose the tape/binding on the edges. They also have a lot of other designs that would work for a kitchen. |

Look at the indoor/outdoor ones, too.

| I bought an outdoor rug from the "Home decorators collection" online. It's been in the playroom for 3 years and still looks good. When my kid drew on it with marker I just wiped it off with a wet rag. http://m.homedecorators.com/h5/plp_search?path=%2Frugs%2Fstyle%2Foutdoor_rugs |
| I placed a rug I bought from Ikea for less than $300 under my dining table. Has held up well but I also don't freak out if something gets spilled on it. |
| With three kids no way would I put a rug under a dining table |
Not OP, but we're required to have rugs covering 80% of hardwood floors, which includes our dining room. |

Indoor/outdoor is the best way to go! We have one that looks like jute from crate and barrel. I don't see it on their website right now.

Ballards in Tyson's has newly opened and is 20% off everything. |
| I think a jute rug would work well. |
I have this one! It has held up amazingly over several years. It's always better to go bigger under a dining room table anyway; it's annoying to pull out your chair and get it stuck on the edge of the rug. |
| Buy a pure wool rug with a low pile. It is naturally stain resistant, soft on the feet, and dampens noise. I just got one cut to a custom size from a wool remnant at a carpet store to fit our dining space, and the cost , including taxes and delivery, was under $500. |
| Are you sure that is big enough? Sounds way too small. Chairs need to stay on the rug when pulled out. |
+1 I only have one, but think rugs in eating areas are gross. |
