I want to be for gun control, and then I wonder if this woman didn't have a gun, she'd be the dead one instead of her husband who was trying to kill her. How else could she have protected herself??? |
Haven't read the article so I can't comment on this particular situation but, consider this, if there were more guns out there, more angry abusive husbands would have them, too.
Maybe the law should be that only women are allowed to carry guns! I think I could get behind that.... |
Don't most of the sick people already have a gun? |
Don't know. Haven't done a poll. I imagine there are a few out there who still don't have them yet! |
Gun Control can mean many things, from total bans (rare) to restrictions and licensing for concealed carry (fairly common). Near-total bans have been difficult to enforce in NY or DC. Maybe elsewhere, too. Background checks and registration (which is what most proposed law is about) would not prevent this woman from arming herself, but might make it harder for her dangerous husband to arm himself. As always, the devil is in the details. |
So identifing oneself as either for or against gun control is mute? -almost like the abortion thing: well, I'm for it if.... Or I'm against it if....? |
Men would still probably be able to get them from women. Schools which focused on male students carrying contraband found that female friends or girlfriends would sneak the items in for the guys. |
I know. I was just joking! But it's a nice thought, isn't it? |
No more plain and simple? |
Husbands and wives murder each other here at higher rates than just about anywhere on earth. And two thirds of these homicides involving wives and husbands are committed with guns.
It is therefore very hard to believe that gun ownership has a beneficial impact on spousal homicide. |
I didn't read the article, but, as a survivor of abuse, I tend to think in terms of of better education/support/resources for abuse victims rather than gun control. I know that if we had had a gun in the house my late husband would have used it on me long before I would have used it on him. Leaving was the best solution.
