Hi,
I started weekly BBP/NST with my ob (i'm considered high-risk) and I'm at 36 weeks... I failed the BPP because they could detect the practice breathing movements of the baby, he was supposed to breathe for 30 seconds... they send me to a nst which I passed.... I did not get my score, but I guess it was 6/8 for the BPP or 8/10 with the NST .... If you have gotten a similar score, what did your ob do? |
OP back... they could *NOT* detect the practice breathing movements |
| from what i understand, its very common for them not to catch the breathing, and as long as you go on to pass the NST you are all good. i read somewhere that they only catch the breathing around 30% of the time, so try not to stress!! congratulations you are almost there! |
| It's fine. Baby didn't fail, more like a B plus. BPPs are awesome at predicting that everything is fine, much less so at predicting something bad will happen. |
| Just so you know, the NST is part of the BPP. The NST is checking HR and movements, the BPP looks at these and other things. |
| My baby got a 6 and I had an over night hospital stay with a repeat in the morning. The baby showed poor muscle tone. He was fine just sleepy during the test |

why were you getting a bpp?
There are actually very few indications for this. Start with nst/afi...if nst is not reactive then you get a Bpp which looks more closely at overall well being. Bpp 2 points for Nst Mvp >2 Breathing Gross movement Tone If your nst was not reactive and a bpp shows no breathing after 30 minutes and you are greater than 36 weeks you can repeat in 6 hours or move toward delivery. If your nst was reactive, they should not have done a bpp-not indicated. If your nst was reactive and the bpp had points off for breathing they likely did not wait the full 30 min provide acoustic stimulation etc. Cliff notes: Bpp is out of 10. If you are 36 weeks with a 6/10 repeat in 8 hours If you are 37+ weeks deliver |
