Should I have more info from my daughter's elementary teacher?

She started Kindergarten this year. The Open House was useless in terms of information. I thought there'd be some sort of sharing of info with parents but it was basically a meet and greet. I did fill out one "getting to know you" type form and one form about how my daughter would be getting to and from school which...apparently they threw in the trash b/c I ended up getting a phone call on the first day from the school because they had no idea how she was supposed to be getting home.

Fortunately, I heard another parent asking about snacks and rest time while at the open house so I at least found out I was supposed to be sending in two snacks a day.

I've been patiently waiting for information to come home about what's going on in class but I've gotten nothing. My daughter told me she went to PE today but since I don't know when she has what specials, I didn't send her in sneakers. She also came home with library books and when I asked her when they were due back, she didn't know.

I'm wondering if we just have a non-communicative teacher or if this is normal. I feel like everything is top secret and I'm only finding out stuff by accident.

Check her backpack tomorrow. In K it's not unusual to get a folder sent home on Fridays filled with papers for parents, including class work, schedules, etc.

Well, she should be wearing sneakers every day bc they will gave recess every day and PE 2/3x a week.

You should get more info about the schedule at back to school night.

New to school this year with a 1st grade boy. The weekly schedule was sent home today. I would look out for it tomorrow.
If you have specific questions, email the teacher. Our teacher has been very responsive to questions since we are new to the school. She even asked about my son's reading ability, which I thought was amazing given it was the first week of school. I would just reach out if you have specific questions.

Our school sends stuff on Tuesdays. That said, no, they didn't give us a list of the day's specials occurred, but your kid will learn pretty fast. As for what they're doing, you'll get updates maybe weekly, but not daily.

OP here - thanks for the feedback.

We've had the folder in the backpack every day but until today, there was nothing in it. Today's stuff was a pre-printed emergency care card (which I already submitted but I guess I'm turning in again), PTA paperwork, and picture day stuff. Hopefully, something classroom related will come home tomorrow.

I'm so used to pre-K where you have near constant communication with teachers and know everything that's going on. Having to rely on your kids for information is such a different (and sometimes painful) dynamic. LOL!

Specials lists pretty much come from teachers. We do Tuesday folders so we conveniently got things on the first day of school but different schools do the folders different days.

Email your child's teacher. FCPS teachers are very responsive -- the goal at our school is a response within 24 hours and I've never NOT gotten one, even if it's "let's talk on the phone."

Our weekly calendars, lunch schedules, etc all came in our Folders, though.

Teacher here. Just email the teacher your questions. The beginning of the year is overwhelming for everyone. And I'm guessing your pre-k was a private pre-k. If so, that is a whole different animal.

Every school is different. At our FCPS school we get most of that info (specials schedule, snacks info, etc.) in a packet at the Open House or sent home on the first day if you missed the Open House.

You are not going to get something everyday. You will get a weekly folder with info. It is K so what do you need to know?

Back to school night is when you get a lot of this info.

I'd be annoyed too. But I probably would wait it out and hope things get better. We received a lot of paper and email info the first week of KG

OP, Are you sure you didn't get something last week before school started?

Back to school night is where they go over the curriculum and day to day information.
