Why has the LAMB PK3 list not budged in months?

Anonymous
I heard so much reassurance that the list would move, particularly in August. It has not budged from 36, not one spot. Why is that? Are there really no more spots opening? Why is this so different from previous years when apparently there was much more movement?

Some years it moves and other years everyone who gets in initially says yes.

My personal theory is 2015 had more movement because MV opened up a lot of PK3 spaces. This provided more total for those seeking Spanish immersion and a few families almost certainly chose it over LAMB.

Anyone who tells you what to expect in the lottery or how much lists move is frankly full of it. They can tell you how it was the year they applied but each year is different. And unpredictable.

Sorry you didn't get in OP.

I never understood why people acted like the waitlist moved much. It's one of the most desirable schools in DC. Sure lots of people just apply just in case they get nowhere else in the common lottery, but I think most people would be thrilled with a spot.

It is beyond 36. But not as far as expected.

Agree. There are some people on here who love to give false hope to people like me. The waitlist hasn't moved much and doesn't move much, ever. I don't know how people can believe that there are "tons" of people who want to turn down a Spanish immersion and Montessori school with their test scores. Sure, it's not everyone's top choice, but given the DCI option, it's very desirable. Thanks for the false hope.

Last year it moved much further (mid-50s). They opened 2 new primary classrooms this year, so obviously people thought the list would move even more than last year.

I'm so sorry, OP. I'm a lottery watcher and I always cringe when someone posts that a list is "definitely" going to move. It's so frustrating. Good luck.

But if they went to 30 in accepting new students, that means that it moved only 20 spots. Which is still almost nothing. And most of that movement happened after school started, months later. So I think people should stop reassuring parents that the list moves a lot. That might have been true years ago, but not anymore.

Most wait lists don't move very much. Especially at strong and/or popular schools.

Stop wishing / hoping / telling others to hang in there.

I know at least one admitted PK3 child (a younger sibling) who will not be attending, as the family has moved to another state.

Lists move until they don't. You can never count on a certain amount of movement from m a certain school. Sad but true. Good luck though!

Has anyone called the school to see what the current WL number is?

No, not months later. 2-3 weeks in.
