| We must move in March (lease is up) and we have a fifth-grader. Can move within Westland or Pyle middle school district. My child has a few learning difficulties...where are we better off? I've heard Pyle is better for kids with LDs, but just anecdotally. Thank you for any real knowledge! |

I would move to Pyle for two reasons
1- the highschool after it is better 2- if your kid is just starting middle school they might get rezoned away from Westland to BCC number 2 depending on where you move. Both are very good although it is often reported that Pyle is the best middle school in the state but I am not sure that applies to kids with learning disabilities. |
| Westland has a great counselor and special needs team. |
| Worked as a special Ed teacher in elementary schools that fed into both Westland and Pyle. I would go to Pyle. |
| Pyle and Whitman are superior in my opinion. |
| Very happy with Westland. Whitman has higher scores, but also less diversity, more competition. Much prefer BCC. |
Why? Not saying I disagree but would just love to know your rationale. |
What's wrong with the bolded? |
| The zoning decisions on BCC #2 will be made in November. Even if it slips slightly, it will be well in advance of your decision making time. |
| Pyle just lost an enormous chunk of its good teachers. I am trying to figure out why. |
Who has left? |
| Pyle and Whitman have a very white (70%), very well-off (FARMS, 2%) population and the administration of those schools keeps grades artificially high (Pyle has the highest number of kids with straight A's in the county, well over 60%). Westland and B-CC have diversity both racially and economically which I think makes for better citizens. |
| I have taught in both clusters, and if it were me I would send my child to Westland. I found the counselors to be more concerned with the students' well-being rather than fast-tracking them for college at age 11. There is SO much personal growth in the middle school years that, in my opinion, the decision to solely focus on academics a short-sighted one. I also agree with the earlier comment about better global citizens in general at Westland. |

Recommend Pyle. While some people are in love of throwing racial related comments, based on my experience, I would paint a totally different picture.
Behind highest scores, there are many children loving moms and dads. They are not simply letting schools to fully decide what their children will become. They go above and beyond to work with school/teachers. Certainly, they work on their children by themselves as well. |
| Pyle, I've sent 2 kids through Pyle, one with slight learning disabilities. Neither has been fast tracked to be in college at 11 as someone else said. The resource classes and extra help my child with LD has received has been great. Can't speak to Westland. |
